Why I Am Leaving Twitter For Mastodon

I guess first off the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. So what is Mastodon?

Mastodon is a free and open-source self-hosted social networking service. It allows anyone to host their own server node in the network, and its various separately operated user bases are federated across many different servers.

These servers are connected as a federated social network, allowing users from different servers to interact with each other seamlessly. Mastodon is a part of the wider Fediverse, allowing its users to also interact with users on different open platforms that support the same protocol, such as PeerTube and Friendica.

– From Wikipedia

Mastodon is one of the most exciting things I have learned about recently. Even though the service has been up since March of 2016, I had no idea it existed! You probably didn’t know about it until recently as well. Unless you’ve dived deep into open source and Linux, then you have probably heard of it before.

Why I Am Leaving Twitter For Mastodon

Twitter is just a mystery to me. I can’t seem to figure out how to grow. Much less have any sort of connection with the community there. Not to mention that most of the community are either bots, people posting food pics, sh*tposts, and/or hate speech.

I just can’t stand it anymore. I don’t like checking my Twitter. Also I never post there because I know the handful of people that follow me won’t engage with the post. So what’s the point?

There’s More

I’m not just leaving Twitter, I am also leaving Facebook. Facebook and Twitter are both guilty here. They both are just farming what I am doing and using me for profit. I wouldn’t really have a problem with it..

Except the fact that they have proven themselves to be inept when it comes to protecting our privacy. So now that I have found a proper alternative to them both I am making the switch. I recommend you do the same!

If you would like to find me on Mastodon, you can do so here.

Reason’s To Use Mastodon

  • Your Privacy IS Taken Seriously
  • The Users Are Nice & Welcoming (IMHO)
  • It’s A Totally Different Environment Than Twitter / Facebook
  • It IS Easy To Transition Over From Twitter!
  • If You Use Linux Than You Can Install Tootle
Tootle On Solus OS Budgie

Thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it!
